Once a group of researchers decided to do a rather strange experiment.
They called a few people and gave them some wine to drink. This wine was served in excellent, high quality, expensive glasses.
Then the same group of people were given the same wine in coarse, poor quality, cheap glasses but they were not told that this is the same wine which they drank earlier.
Then they were asked a simple question. Which of the two wines tasted better?
Most of the people replied – the first one!
The research didn’t end here. The experiment was repeated by blind folding the drinkers so that they didn’t know which was the better glass and which was the poorer quality one. Now there answer was – both wines tasted the same!
What you have just read is a classic example of what is known as the placebo effect.
So what does this mean for website owners?
This means that if you have a website and it is poorly designed, it will fail to please your audience or at least will find difficulty in doing so. If you pack the same content with beautiful interfaces and high quality templates, most of your audience will think that even your content is beautiful and of a high quality.
If this were not true then why do high profile websites employ high profile and high paying designers to build their websites? A book is, indeed, judged by its cover.
