Wix is one of the most effective online tools for beginning web designers. Unlike many of its predecessors, the service allows even those who have no experience with web design to create an attractive, easily navigable website. Best of all, Wix is cheap, features hosting and can be set up on a recurrent payment schedule, or you can buy an entire year’s subscription with a business credit card from NerdWallet, a far less convoluted process than what is typical in setting up a website.
Perhaps the key feature of Wix is that it allows you to choose from a variety of different templates, some of which happen to be suited to specific types of businesses, blogs or entertainment sites. Not all of Wix’s templates are suitable for a professional-looking site, but some certainly qualify and look just as good as sites that cost thousands of dollars to build.
Here are 5 of our favorites for 2013:
1. The Artist
The Artist is one of the most unique templates that you’ll come across on when browsing the Wix gallery. Dark, moody and featuring shards of deep colors, the template truly does look as it was based off of an artist’s palette. Combine this with the flash effect of windows moving in and out of the frame upon each click, and it becomes quite clear why this is one of our favorite Wix templates at the moment.
The one downside, maybe, is that editing in The Artist can be a bit tricky and laggy, especially if your computer’s system requirements aren’t up to snuff.
2. Strategic Consulting
Clean, sleek templates that feature a fair amount of white background still have a place in today’s web, especially when it comes to the professional world. We like Strategic Consulting not only for it’s blocky (in a good way) layout, but because it maintains an element of “cool” throughout every page. Muted grays and blues serve as the perfect colors for this template, which can be used for marketing firms, tech companies and more.
3. Healthy Recipes
Food blogging is more popular now than ever, and there are plenty of Wix templates to help point you in the right direction if this is an interest, with Healthy Recipes being perhaps the most attractive. This template allows you to display photos of food and drink in a manner that truly makes them pop, as this is the centerpiece of any foodie website or blog. There’s plenty of room for text, too, and the site features a color scheme that is nothing short of warm and inviting.
4. Interior Design
If you’re looking for a template that allows you to show off homes and apartments in the best way possible, you need not look further than Interior Design. This is a gorgeous template, featuring a dark grey border which frames a large-format photo gallery. Designing a website for a real estate firm, for example, means finding a way to highlight the better parts of each home’s interior; this is the template that gets the job done right.
5. Yoga Fitness Club
Health and fitness clubs are all the rage these days, and without a strong website, it can be difficult for them to succeed in a sea of competition. The Yoga Fitness Club template is a great solution, featuring cool and calming colors, plenty of space to list blurbs about services and ample room for photos. Each page transitions smoothly into the next, swiping across the screen in a horizontal manner. It’s a rather basic design, but we find it to be the perfect fit for its role.
With Wix on your side, you can create a beautiful website without ever having to type in a single line of code.
